Mr. Knaack
Welcome to Richmond Elementary School! Our school, which
educates kindergarten through sixth grade students, is located
on the Southeast side of Appleton, just east of Lawrence
University and the College Avenue Bridge that spans the Fox
River. We are a small, family-oriented school with a current
enrollment of about 270 students. In addition to a well-rounded,
dynamic curriculum for students in grades one through six, we
offer full day kindergarten with a half-day option.
Our school has a long and sound tradition of strong student
achievement. Our school improvement efforts in the areas
of reading and writing have continued to help our students soar
in these areas. Increasing student learning in mathematics
continues to be a focus area for the current school year. Our
community partnership program, Math Achievement Partnership,
provides tutor support for selected fourth and fifth grade
students. We continue to support United for Reading Success, a
focus on character education, and expanded intramural
activities.
We are very proud of our staff members in the Richmond School
community. All are very well qualified in their particular
disciplines and do everything they can to ensure that their
students' year is productive, safe and enjoyable. Our teaching
staff consists of eleven K-6 teachers, staff that specializes in
art, music and physical education. We have three special
education teachers working with identified students and a full
time reading specialist working with students, parents and
staff. Our school has a half-time guidance counselor working
with all students to strengthen their social/emotional skills to
promote optimal achievement. Our part time psychologist, social
worker, and school nurse work with students as needs are
identified. Beyond this we have great support from
paraprofessionals, parent and community volunteers and our
school secretary and building engineer. Additionally, Richmond
provides opportunities for university students majoring in
education to fulfill classroom experience/human relations
requirements.
Richmond School's active and enthusiastic Parent Teacher
Organization (PTO) encourages parents to be involved in their
school and their child(ren)'s education. Their involvement and
support of enrichment activities, programs and other important
activities in our school is highly beneficial to our students,
parents and staff.
Finally, please visit our school or call to become one of our
many volunteers helping students and staff in their exciting
work. Please feel free to call me at 832-5779, or email me at

with questions. You will find Richmond School to be a very
welcoming and active place for students to learn and grow.
Sincerely,
Mr.
